Corbridge Crescent was purchased in 2013 as a vacant site used for occasional car parking. Containers seemed like a good ‘meanwhile’ solution to the prohibitions on permanent development posed by the Gasholders. Following the success of the first 30 containers, adjoining sites were acquired to replicate the original scheme. Today this ‘meanwhile’ use has flourished into a vibrant community of 200 small businesses where previously stood only derelict, unusable space.
